Barossa United Football Club has been recognised as Football South Australia’s Club Changer Club of the Month for May, with the theme of Volunteers aligning with National Volunteer Week.
Volunteers sit at the heart of Barossa United, playing a crucial role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and community driven club environment. From coaching and refereeing to running the canteen and supporting club operations, Barossa United’s volunteers go above and beyond to make football accessible and enjoyable for all.

As the club continues to grow, including a recent move to a brand new $6 million facility, volunteer support has remained strong, with several initiatives in place to recognise, train, and empower those who give their time.
Among these are:
- The Barossa Brew Crew – Supported by Barossa Coffee Roasters, volunteers receive barista training and serve throughout the season, gaining new skills and helping keep supporters (and sponsors) happy.
- Young Referees Mentorship Program – Teenage players are mentored by senior referees, gaining valuable experience and contributing to MiniRoos and junior matches.
- Empowered Coaching Network – Coaches and managers are supported through dedicated communication channels and access to key resources.
- Co-Coaching Model – Female assistant coaches are paired with experienced mentors to develop leadership and technical skills in a supportive environment.
- Committee Leadership – With a 50/50 gender split, the club’s committee fosters inclusive decision-making and supported the recent relocation project through collaboration and shared learning.
Barossa United has also embraced Football Australia’s Club Changer program, using the platform to improve governance, leadership development, and long-term volunteer sustainability. Attendance at the Women in Football Leadership Program has strengthened female representation and capability within the club’s leadership group.
