It is with great excitement that we announce the Whyalla Junior and Senior Association have signed an agreement for Football South Australia to administer their competitions for the upcoming 2025 season.
The Whyalla association currently supports over 550 players across their Junior and Senior competitions, with five clubs competing - Steel United, Westlands United, Whyalla Lions, Whyalla Croatia, and Whyalla Wanderers.
To support the expansion of football in the region, Football SA will be responsible for and provide a multitude of resources to ensure continued success. This includes, but is not limited to, delivery of annual competition fixtures, administering the rules and regulations of the competition, referee appointments, and liaising with club delegates, city council, and government authorities.
Development will be at the core of this agreement as there will be a focus on player and official development, coordination of a development centre for talented Whyalla athletes, running school holiday clinics, school-based participation programs, and coach and referee education, and ensuring quality corporate sponsorship for league competitions and development programs.
Football SA will also manage all media and communications, including content for social media platforms, management of league branding, and major event management support.
Football South Australia CEO, Michael Carter stated:
“Whyalla has long been held as a strong Football/Soccer community and we look forward to assisting in running quality competitions for all participants. There are big plans for the region on many levels. We look forward to working with the clubs and community stakeholders to strengthen the code in the region.”
Whyalla Senior Soccer Association Manager, Ken McCall shares his enthusiasm for the agreement:
“I am optimistic that with Football South Australia’s support, we will have a more stable foundation for our association. I have spoken to our senior soccer clubs, and they are all looking forward to working with Football SA to build on our current achievements.”
David Sharp of the Whyalla Junior Soccer Association echoed their sentiments:
“I am positive that working with Football SA will have a successful outcome for our Junior Association for years to come”.
This collaboration is not just about managing competitions, but also building a sustainable, thriving football culture that nurtures talent, fosters community engagement, and creates lasting opportunities for everyone involved. Together, Football SA and the Whyalla associations are poised to achieve great things in the years to come, ensuring that football in Whyalla continues to flourish well into the future.
