Football South Australia has been actively collaborating with schools to elevate football education and provide students with invaluable opportunities to develop both on and off the field. For the past two years, Football SA staff have been meeting regularly with teachers and coaches responsible for delivering football programs in South Australian schools, resulting in a wide range of positive outcomes that benefit students, educators, and the community as a whole.
Some of the most notable outcomes of this partnership include:
- Community Coach Education courses delivered to students.
- Referee Education courses for students.
- Two dedicated personal development days for teachers and coaches to enhance their knowledge and skills in school-based football programs.
- Foundation of Football Course curated for teachers.
- Player-Led Football Festivals held in terms 1 and 4.
- Introduction of Teqball: a football-based game played on a curved table, which has been introduced to schools to add a fresh, engaging element to football training.
- Collaboration with competition bodies.
- Rostrevor College open day for teachers and coaches from other schools.
- 2025 School Ambassador Program.
- Football SA school programs panel at the 2025 Coaching Conference.
- Introduction of Gawler FSA Development Centre at Trinity College.

Roma Mitchell Secondary College staff member, Theo Tsiounis, shared his experience:
“Collaborating as a network of schools with Football South Australia has been an excellent opportunity to enhance our support for players, helping them progress in their sporting journeys and personal development.”
Get Involved in 2025
In addition to the networking group above, Football South Australia is excited to introduce a new initiative designed to strengthen the bond between the football community and football programs delivered in schools. Our current 8-week Football in Schools Program engages nearly 2000 students a year. From 2025, Football SA will be working with Football Australia in delivering the Sporting Schools Program. Our new initiative, the School Ambassador Program, will assist in facilitating a year-round connection between schools and football. As a School Ambassador, you will serve as the primary contact for all things football related. Football SA will keep you updated with the latest news through newsletters and provide exclusive offers. Additionally, we will equip School Ambassadors with valuable resources to ensure that football is played and enjoyed throughout the entire year.
Football South Australia Participation Officer, Owen Gallas, shared:
“With 50 teachers already signed up with the school ambassador program, there is no better time to take part in creating a strong network of like-minded teachers who are actively looking to promote sport within their community and, more specifically, football!”
Schools interested in joining this group or participating in any of the initiatives outlined above are encouraged to get in touch.
