Football South Australia (Football SA) is proud to recognise one of the game’s most dedicated contributors, with the official naming of the Football SA Museum Room as “The Denis Harlow Room.”
For more than five decades, Denis Harlow OAM has played a significant role in shaping football in South Australia. His involvement in the game has spanned across multiple areas as a player, coach, team manager and administrator, but it is his work as a historian and custodian of the game’s heritage that has left a lasting and unique legacy.
Born in Derby, England, Denis arrived in Australia in 1960 and quickly became immersed in the local football community. He went on to represent South Australia and contribute to the game at both state and national levels, including roles in major international events such as the FIFA World Youth Championships and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
While his achievements across the game are extensive, Denis’s greatest contribution has been his tireless work in documenting and preserving the history of football in South Australia. As the author of History of Soccer in South Australia, 1902–2002, and a driving force behind the Football SA Museum and Hall of Fame, Denis has ensured that the stories of players, clubs, officials and communities are not lost over time.
Through years of collecting, recording and archiving, Denis has helped build a rich and lasting record of the game in this state, one that continues to educate, connect and inspire future generations.
In recognition of this extraordinary contribution, the Football SA Board endorsed the naming of the museum room in his honour. It is a fitting tribute to a person whose life’s work has been dedicated to preserving the history of the game.
The naming of “The Denis Harlow Room” stands as a lasting acknowledgement of Denis’s impact and a reminder of the importance of protecting and celebrating the heritage of football in South Australia.
