Port Lincoln Soccer Association Celebrates $400,000 Power of Her Funding Boost

The Port Lincoln soccer community is set to benefit from a significant infrastructure upgrade, thanks to a $400,000 grant from the State Government's Power of Her Infrastructure and Program Fund for new change facilities at Kirton Point. The event was attended by key figures including Eric Brown, CEO of Port Lincoln Council; Richard Hennell, President of the Port Lincoln Soccer Association; and Michael Carter, CEO of Football South Australia.

The funding, part of the Malinauskas Government's FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Legacy Plan, will be matched by contributions from the Port Lincoln Council and local association. This combined $800,000 investment will fund new change facilities at Kirton Point, addressing a critical need for the growing soccer community.

Richard Hennell, President of the Port Lincoln Soccer Association, emphasised the project's importance: "Soccer participation has been growing steadily across the Lower Eyre Peninsula for over a decade. These new unisex change rooms will ensure inclusivity and support our sport's continued development and sustainability in the region. The support from Football SA and Pt Lincoln Council has been fantastic "

Football SA CEO Michael Carter praised the association's leadership: "The Port Lincoln Soccer Association is highly regarded for its promotion of the game. This upgrade at Kirton Point has been a long time in discussion, and we are very pleased with the commencement and continue with plans for further improvements, including pitch lighting, already in discussion with the Council."

The Port Lincoln Soccer Association, which supports over 400 players, has demonstrated its strength both on and off the field:

- Complimentary support from Football SA's Eyre Peninsula Development Officer, Luke Marinkovich

- A thriving development centre for talented youth, under the guidance of Football SA Technical Director Mike Cooper, with coaches Kym Perone and Nathan Spinks

- Impressive performance at recent State Championships, fielding a record six teams and securing multiple podium finishes

This investment not only addresses immediate infrastructure needs but also aligns with broader goals to enhance sports facilities and promote inclusivity in regional areas.
