NPLSA Round 12

RAIvABL

Adelaide Croatia Raiders vs Adelaide Blue Eagles
Venue: Croatian Sports Centre
Date: Saturday 10 July 3:00 PM

The first of Saturday’s two 3:00pm kick-offs is a clash between two sides reeling from disappointing recent results as Raiders host last-placed Blue Eagles.

Raiders had little to smile about after their 3-1 defeat to MetroStars, with one win in their last five matches seeing them slide down to tenth on the ladder and sit perilously close to the bottom two.

Christian D’Angelo’s towering header got Blue Eagles off to the perfect start over Campbelltown, but two goals in two second-half minutes proved too much to overcome in their 2-1 loss.

A repeat of Raiders’ 1-0 win in Round 1 would likely see them stretch their buffer over the relegation zone, but victory to Blue Eagles would not only break their long drought but also cut their points deficit on their opponents to seven with ten matches to play.

Sturt Lions vs Croydon FC
Venue: West Beach Parks Football Centre
Date: Saturday 10 July 3:00 PM

West Beach Parks Football Centre is the venue for a fixture between two NPL sides who have experienced recent upticks in their league form lines.

The Lions won their second match in a row, with a Gonzalo Rodriguez double helping them to a 3-1 victory over South Adelaide and sending them back into the top six for the first time since earlier in the season.

Croydon extended their unbeaten run to three games in dramatic fashion, with Nathan Munro’s well-hit volley gliding through a sea of bodies and under the goalkeeper equalising in the 92nd minute to earn a 1-1 draw at City.

With the hosts now remarkably just four points behind ladder leaders City, and the visitors now only one point from safety, this match shapes as an opportunity for a massive three points for both sides.

Adelaide City vs Campbelltown City
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: Saturday 10 July 5:00 PM

Fixtures between City and Campbelltown are always ones that are marked on the calendar and this weekend’s clash is no exception, with both sides enjoying strong seasons.

City managed to keep hold of top spot on the ladder despite drawing at home to 11th-placed Croydon FC last week, conceding in injury time to have two points snatched away in their match that finished 1-1.

Despite falling behind early and playing with ten men for the last half hour, Campbelltown managed to hold firm and grind out a difficult 2-1 victory over Blue Eagles, with Marc Marino’s long-range strike proving to be the winner.

The home side will be hoping for a repeat of their 2-1 triumph over their opponents in Round 1, but their visitors will know that three points against City could see them overtake their rivals.

Adelaide Olympic vs Cumberland United
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Saturday 10 July 6:00 PM

Two sides who experienced vastly different starts to the season now find themselves separated by a solitary point at the halfway mark, as Olympic host Cumberland.

Olympic pulled off one of the upsets of the season as they claimed victory convincingly over Comets, with a brace from skipper Fausto Erba sealing an emphatic 3-0 win that put some breathing room between themselves and the drop zone.

Two sensational finishes by Jumar Oakley weren’t enough to salvage a result for Cumberland in their 3-2 loss to United, marking their third defeat in a row and seeing them slide out of the top six for the first time this season.

Only City and Comets have lost fewer matches than Olympic this season, so they’ll fancy themselves to grab another important three points here, but Cumberland will be aiming to recapture the form that saw them start the season off so brightly this weekend.

Adelaide Olympic line-up: Will Hendon, Alexander Tsimopoulos, Rastko Ljujic, 1. Lewis Moss (GK), 2. Samuel Dweh, 3. Paul Wilson, 4. Benkert Abdija, 5. Michael Cittadini, 6. AUFC

Adelaide United FC vs South Adelaide
Venue: Jack Smith Park
Date: Saturday 10 July 7:30 PM

A win last weekend put an end to United’s dry spell, so they’ll be hoping to make it two in as many weeks against a South side entering the contest off the back of two defeats.

The Young Reds were on a high at the Summit Sports and Recreation Centre, with Mohamed Toure’s strike from outside the box, Yaya Dukuly’s neat finish over the keeper and Jonny Yull’s incredible goal directly from a corner earning an important 3-2 win.

South, meanwhile, fell to a convincing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sturt that saw them leapfrogged and slide out of the top half, despite Jack Walker’s impressive finish in at the near post.

Another match-up between two sides just one point apart, both United and South will be hoping that they can start to string results together and cement themselves in the top half.

Adelaide United FC line-up: Arbi Mollas, 14. Binyam Kebede, 15. Kane Vidmar, 17. Mohamed Toure, 19. Yaya Dukuly, 37. Jonny Yull, 40. Ethan Cox (GK), 42. Fergus Lynch, 49. Keshav Shrestha, 53. MetroStars vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: Saturday 10 July 7:30 PM

There are few sides in as scintillating form as MetroStars right now, so their clash against Comets under Saturday night lights is sure to be a high-quality encounter.

MetroStars won their fourth consecutive match in style as a 3-1 victory over Raiders sent them up to second on the table, with Joshua Mori’s sumptuous lob from a delightful Hamish Gow long ball a highlight.

Comets, meanwhile, were disappointing as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Olympic in what was just their second loss of the season, surrendering second spot in the process.

Both MetroStars and Comets sit less than a win behind the top of the table, so they both know that any points accrued from now until the end of the season could prove crucial in the battle for supremacy.

MetroStars line-up: 1. Isaac Carmody (GK), 2. Connor O'rielly, 3. Luke Frangakis, 4. Justin Davis, 5. Timothy Henderson, 8. Rocky Callisto, 10. Anthony Solagna (C), 11. Ariath Piol, 12.
