Football South Australia is delighted to congratulate Emilia Murray on being named CommBank Young Matildas Squad Captain for the upcoming Four Nations Tournament in Canberra.
Coach Leah Blayney named Emilia her captain of the 23-player squad that is participating in the 2022 Pacific Women’s Four Nations Tournament in Canberra and Queanbeyan, which starts today (Tuesday).
Emilia has been a part of Football SA programs since 2013 and is now on a scholarship deal with Adelaide United for the upcoming Liberty A-League 2022/23 season.
Emilia will lead her CommBank Young Matildas against Solomon Islands WNT on Tuesday, followed by matches against FIJI WNT (Friday) and Papua New Guinea WNT (Sunday).
On being named captain, Emilia told Football SA how proud she is.
"It’s a dream come true. It’s what ’ve dreamt about since I was kid. To even be part of this team is truly an honour but to wear the armband is even more special to me. I feel very humbled and excited to lead this team out and it will be an experience I’ll cherish forever.
My Mum has played a huge role in where I am right now and nothing would have been possible without her. Her sacrifices and hard work to help me to get where I am, is another reason of motivation to go even further and to repay her in every way I can.
Michele, my NTC/Adelaide United coach, has also helped me so much not only as a player but also a person. My football has only risen since being under him and I will always be grateful for that and take that in my journey."

Football SA NTC Coach, Michele Lastella is proud of Emilia's achievement.
"As a program we are extremely proud of Milsy’s development over the past 8 years. She’s is an absolute pleasure to coach, always takes feedback positively and a great person.
After quite a few setbacks with some injuries at inopportune times last season, Milsy has continued to show her resilience and growth by adding multiple elements to her game. We are really looking forward to seeing her in the green and gold this week."

Australia’s U-20 Women’s National Team will kick start the international portion of their new cycle with three matches against the senior national teams of Solomon Islands (8 Nov), Fiji (11 November) and Papua New Guinea (13 November).
These matches will be the next step in the CommBank Young Matildas’ preparations for the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2024™ Qualifying Round 1.
Head Coach Blayney said: “This is a fantastic occasion for this group of players as they begin their international journey at the U-20 level. It will be a good opportunity for many to learn more about themselves as they take on some of the best teams in the Pacific region.”
“We always welcome international competition and the exposure it provides to different environments, playing styles and cultures. For the CommBank Young Matildas to have the ability to take on senior teams at their age, it will be invaluable to their future development.
“Following the first camp of this cycle last month, we have continued to keep watch over players and the squad selection has been based on performances at various talent identification tournaments held recently, application back in their home environments at state National Premier Leagues competitions and Liberty A-League Women’s clubs.
“To allow us to continue casting the net as wide as possible, players who participated in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022™ have not been called in on this occasion.”
Australia was last week drawn in Group C alongside group hosts Kyrgyz Republic, Guam and Iraq for the qualifiers to take place between 4 – 12 March 2023. The eight group winners will progress to Round 2, which will be played from 3 – 11 June 2023.
All matches in the Pacific Four Nations Tournament will be streamed LIVE via the Football Australia YouTube account, with fans encouraged to attend the final matchday free of charge at Seiffert Oval on 13 November 2022.
