Salisbury Inter gets their season underway as they face a solid Football SA NTC in Friday night action at VALO Football Centre. After missing Round One after a COVID outbreak postponed their encounter with Adelaide University, Salisbury Inter will look to get their title defence off to a strong start with a win over Football SA NTC.
Salisbury Inter continued their unstoppable 2021 form into their 2022 WNPL Pre-Season Cup campaign, finishing the cup competition undefeated, culminating in winning the Championship after beating West Adelaide 2-1 in the final. They now face Football SA NTC in their first match of the season, who is fresh off an impressive 8-1 win over 2020 Champions Metro United WFC in their opening match.
Football SA NTC continues to improve under coach Michele Lastella, who has transformed his young squad into one of the most feared teams in the competition. Emilia Murray will enter Round Two in great spirits after picking up her first goal of the season in Round One, also receiving the news she was selected in the upcoming Young Matildas squad. Claire Scarpin also demonstrated her incredible goal-scoring talents after scoring twice in their opening-round victory.

Adelaide City recorded an impressive 5-3 first-round win against last season’s Grand Finalist West Adelaide. Their first competitive match under new coach Angelo Paul looks to have gone perfectly after knocking off their rivals in a strong showing. New signings Mawa Sumaoro and Valeria Guajardo assisted in their team’s Round One victory as they recorded two goals each, while Adelaide City loyal Daniela Di Bartolo recorded her first of their season. Adelaide City will hope to start the new season off with two wins in two as they look to reclaim their former glories in 2022.
They now face recently promoted WT Birkalla who will be hungry to pick up their first win in the WNPLSA after they recorded a draw against Fulham United in Round One. WT Birkalla will be devasted that they did not open their season with three points after their 90th-minute penalty was saved to end the game in a draw. It was a strong first performance by WT Birkalla in the opening round, however, will now face its biggest challenge in Adelaide City.

Two teams who search for their first wins of the season face off in Round Two as West Adelaide travels to VALO Football Centre to battle with Modbury Vista. Newly promoted Modbury Vista experienced their first league fixture loss in over a year as Adelaide Comets ran out 5-4 wins in their first-round matchup. After being down 5-2 in the first 60 minutes of their encounter, Modbury Vista showed great determination to close the margin, almost picking up a draw. Finding the back of the net didn’t seem a problem for Modbury Vista, however, they must improve on their defensive performance.
Modbury Vista faces a difficult challenge as they meet West Adelaide, who are eager to recover from their first-round 5-3 defeat to Adelaide City. West Adelaide showed great potential in their first-round loss with new signing Racheal Quigley scoring her first two goals of the season for her new club, while Nicole Tilley continued her great goalscoring talents from last season, picking up her first of the season. West Adelaide’s ambitions of winning a title will look to begin against Modbury Vista as they aim for their first points of the season.

After the devastation of their first-round loss to Football SA NTC where they conceded eight goals, Metro United WFC will be eager to leave that in the past as they look to pick up their first points of the season against Adelaide Comets. There was not much to celebrate for Metro United WFC, as the team were unable to compete with the youth of their opponents. Vanessa Reed’s 47th-minute goal was not able to spark any sort of comeback for her squad as they conceded four more further goals.
Their start to the season could get even worse as they face Adelaide Comets in Round Two. Adelaide Comets enters Round Two in great spirits after a dominant display against Modbury Vista, which led to a 5-4 victory. Georgie Nicola starred for her new club, recording two goals in their opening fixture, while 2021 Team of the Year midfielder Yuka Sasaki picked up her first of the season. Adelaide Comets will hope to take advantage of a struggling Metro United WFC defence to pick up their second win of the season, further demonstrating their ambitions of making the Final Series in 2022.

Last season’s bottom two face off in Round Two as Adelaide University SC travels to West Beach Parks Football Centre to face Fulham United. Fulham United was fortunate to have recorded a point in their first-round meeting with WT Birkalla after goalkeeper Natalie Hayman’s masterclass and a last-minute penalty save kept the score level. After avoiding defeat in Round One, Fulham United will hope to better their performance and pick up their first win of the season.
Adelaide University play in their first match of the season after their first-round matchup with Salisbury Inter was postponed due to COVID. After struggling towards the end of the 2021 season which saw them finish bottom, Adelaide University’s WNPL Pre-Season Cup performance showed some improvement from the previous season, as they recorded one win and a draw in four matches. Adelaide University will hope to get its season off to a better start than what it ended last season.

Women’s State League Preview

Round One of the Women’s State League saw many goals, with 28 goals being scored across four games. After experiencing big defeats in Round One, Campbelltown City and Elizabeth Grove face off as they both look to record their first points of the season. Life in the Women’s State League did not start well for both teams, with Elizabeth Grove experiencing a 12-0 loss to South Adelaide, while Campbelltown City experienced a 6-0 loss to Adelaide Hills. Three points in Round Two are vital for both clubs in their attempts to get their Women’s State League campaign underway.
Adelaide Hills and Adelaide Jaguars enter Round Two in great spirits after experiencing wins in their opening fixture. Adelaide Hills’ first match in the Women’s State League saw them knock off Campbelltown City 6-0, while Adelaide Jaguars came out as victors as they narrowly beat Cove FC 2-1. Both clubs will be eager to start their 2022 campaign with two wins in two as they face each other Friday night at the Hawks Nest.
After opening the 2022 season with a WSL Pre-Season Cup win and an opening-round 7-0 win over FK Beograd, Modbury Jets will look to continue their great start with a win over Flinders United in Round Two. After not playing in Round One as they received a bye, Flinders United will hope to get their season started with three points. This Round Two fixture will take place at Smith Partners Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Cove FC host FK Beograd at Marion Sports and Community Club on Sunday afternoon as both teams look to record their first points of the season. Both clubs will look to bounce back after both clubs experienced losses in Round One, with Cove FC being narrowly beaten by Adelaide Jaguars in a 2-1 loss, while FK Beograd was beaten 7-0 by Modbury Jets.
South Adelaide has received a bye in Round Two.
