Modbury Vista vs Adelaide Comets
6:15 pm | Friday 10 June | State Centre for Football
Last Meeting: (26/3/22) Round One | Adelaide Comets 5 v Modbury Vista 4

We have now ticked over the halfway point of the season and Modbury Vista is now set to face off against Adelaide Comets for the second time this year. Modbury Vista's first nine rounds in the WNPLSA have not gone to plan as the team currently sits bottom of the league with two draws and seven losses. In their last fixture, Modbury Vista experienced a 5-0 loss to Football SA NTC as the young squad put four goals past them in the first half. Modbury Vista’s defensive worries have continued with the squad having the worst defensive record in the competition with 35 goals conceded.
When Modbury Vista met Adelaide Comets in Round One, they came out of the contest with a 5-4 loss, which saw Ailin Marshall, Alana Armstrong, Ella Smith and Elisabeth Dodds all grab goals. While Adelaide Comets would have been pleased to start their season off with a big win as new signing Georgie Nicola got her season underway with a double, with Joanna Katsabis, Yuka Sasaki and Kiara Osullivan all securing their first goals of the season.
Adelaide Comets' brilliant run of five games unbeaten and three consecutive wins has now come to an end as league leaders West Adelaide beat them 5-1 in Round Nine. The team showed great spirits during the games, which led to Chrissy Panagaris scoring from the penalty spot in the 30th minute to take the score to 2-1, securing her tenth goal of the season in the process. Although the loss, Adelaide Comets has remained in the top four, with there only being a three-point gap separating them and third place Salisbury Inter that the team can strive for. Adelaide Comets have been strong so far this season in the forward line, with the squad holding the third-best attacking output with 25 goals scored, however, they currently hold the worst defensive record out of the current top six with 22 goals conceded. Adelaide Comets will hope to begin to distance themselves and cement their spot within the top four with another big win tonight.

Adelaide City vs West Adelaide
7:15 pm | Friday 10 June | Adelaide City Park
Last Meeting: (26/3/22) Round One | West Adelaide 3 v Adelaide City 5

It’s first vs second tonight as league leaders West Adelaide attempt to distance themselves from their closest adversaries in Adelaide City. Adelaide City has been incredibly strong this season, winning seven out of their first nine games, slipping up on only two occasions where they recorded losses. After facing a heavy defeat to Adelaide Comets in Round Nine, Adelaide City bounced back in great fashion as they secured a 2-0 win over Fulham United which saw Katie Bowler score her sixth goal of the season, while Mawa Sumaoro grabbed her fifth goal in the league. A win for Adelaide City will see them go level with West Adelaide at the top of the WNPLSA ladder, however, will remain in second on goal difference.
Adelaide City has the privilege of being the only team this season to take points off West Adelaide after beating them in the season opener 5-3. In that encounter ex-West Adelaide player Mawa Sumaoro scored a brace, while new signing Valeria Guajardo also secured a brace with Daniela Di Bartolo chiming in with her first goal of the season. West Adelaide was strong in the encounter, with Racheal Quigley also securing a brace, while Nicole Tilley also grabbed her first of the season, however, it was not enough to topple Adelaide City on the night.
Since that encounter West Adelaide has been perfect in all competition, not slipping up once as they remain unbeaten in their last eight games with eight consecutive wins. West Adelaide has been the best-attacking side in the competition by some distance, scoring 45 goals already, currently having scored eleven more goals than the second-best in the competition. Since their opening match against Adelaide City, West Adelaide has only conceded three goals, demonstrating their incredible defensive performances. In their last fixture, the team secured a 5-1 win against an informed Adelaide Comets squad as Laura Johns and Racheal Quigley both scored braces, while Georgie Macri secured her fifth goal of the season. West Adelaide will be looking for revenge in this matchup as they hope to extend their lead at the top of the WNPLSA to six points.

Salisbury Inter vs Adelaide University
8:15 pm | Friday 10 June | State Centre for Football
Last Meeting: (19/4/22) Round One | Adelaide University 1 v Salisbury Inter 3

Salisbury Inter search to enter the top two for the first time this season as they take on Adelaide University tonight at the State Centre for Football. Since their 2-1 loss to West Adelaide in Round Four, Salisbury Inter has been almost perfect as they have won five of their last six matches, with their only loss coming against current second-place Adelaide City. In the last two weeks, Salisbury Inter has been dominant going forward which has seen them score 15 goals across both games. In their last fixture, they secured a 6-2 win over WT Birkalla as Maria Rojas scored a brace, while Chantelle Ryder, Nicola Frazzetto and Mina Nishitani all recorded their first goals of the season, with Emily Heazlewood having the honour of bagging her seventh of the campaign.
When Salisbury Inter met Adelaide University in their rescheduled Round One fixture in April, they secured a 3-1 victory which provided their opponents with their first defeat of the season. Danielle Harmer opened the scoring in this matchup, while Maria Rojas scored a brace in that encounter to secure the win. Alysia Panagakos attempted to restore a comeback with her goal in the 53rd minute, however, it was merely just personal merit at the final whistle.
After experiencing four rounds without a win, Adelaide University seems to have returned to better form as they have secured a win and draw in their last two fixtures. Adelaide University played out a 1-1 draw with the current seventh-place side Metro United WFC last week, which saw Tanaye Morris continue her great scoring form as she secured her fifth goal of the season. Currently sitting in sixth, a win for Adelaide University could potentially see them climb the ladder with only two points separating themselves and the current fourth place Adelaide Comets.

Metro United WFC vs Football SA NTC

Last Meeting: (25/3/22) Round One | Football SA NTC 8 v Metro United 1

Metro United WFC is set to host Football SA NTC tomorrow afternoon on Saturday standalone fixture. After starting the season in struggling form, Metro United WFC has seemed to found their mojo which has seen them win twice and draw once in their last three games, which see them now sit only three points off the top four. In their last fixture Metro United WFC played out a 1-1 draw with Adelaide University which saw Roxanne Dodd secure the team's only goal of the round as she continued her incredible scoring form. The team has been stronger in defence in recent weeks as they have only conceded two goals in their last three games.
Metro United WFC is searching for revenge over Football SA NTC after the young squad embarrassed them in the opening round with an 8-1 result. Metro United WFC started their season in the worst possible fashion conceding eight goals. On the other hand, Football SA NTC was extremely pleased to get their season off to the best possible start with numerous goal scorers contributing to their incredible win.
After starting the season on top of the ladder in the first four rounds, Football SA NTC experienced a dramatic drop in form as they were without a win until their Round Nine encounter with Modbury Vista. They returned to winning ways with an impressive 5-0 win over Modbury Vista last week, which saw Erin Kontoutsikos, Emilia Murray, Claire Scarpin, Camila Madriz Figueroa and Victoria Costanzo all contributing to goals in the victory. Currently two points behind fourth-placed Adelaide Comets, a win could potentially see the side re-enter the top four.

Fulham United vs WT Birkalla
3:00 pm | Sunday 12 June | West Beach Parks Football Centre
Last Meeting: (25/3/22) Round One | WT Birkalla 0 v Fulham United 0

Two sides who are yet to win a match this season are set to face off as ninth place Fulham United hosts eighth-place WT Birkalla. Fulham United have not had much to celebrate thus far this season, with the team sitting second to last with only two points. The team has now faced three consecutive defeats, with the most recent coming against Adelaide City with a 2-0 loss. Fulham United has still struggled going forward with the team only scoring five goals in their opening nine games.
One of Fulham United’s two draws this season came against WT Birkalla in the season opener as both teams finished the game goalless in a 0-0 result. WT Birkalla were unlucky not to have secured the win in that encounter as they had a 93rd-minute penalty saved by the Fulham United goalkeeper, removing their chance to get their first win of the season.
WT Birkalla’s start to 2022 hasn’t been much better, with the team only securing one more point than Fulham United as they sit on three draws and six losses. In their last fixture, WT Birkalla lost 6-2 to Salisbury Inter, however, showed great spirit to keep themselves in the game until the 70th minute. Sarah Chappel was the star for WT Birkalla on the day, with two of her strikes earning her nomination for Goal of the Week, with one ultimately coming out the winner. A win for WT Birkalla will take them four points clear from the bottom two, setting them perfectly for the final stretch of the season.
