Football South Australia is the governing body for football in South Australia. We are a large member-based organisation with an official participant base of in excess of 40,000 players across 14 associations, with over 300 clubs statewide.

Football SA is responsible for high performance programs for talented athletes, competition management, the management and performance of Servicefm Stadium, governance, financial management and strategy for the game in the state.

The Senior Elite Competition Manager for Football South Australia (FSA) would be responsible for overseeing senior-level football operations including the Men’s and Women’s National Premier Leagues, State Leagues, Australia Cup and other competitions involving Senior Teams, ensuring high standards of competition, player development, and club support across the state.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Strategic Leadership and Development:

  • Develop and implement strategies for senior football growth and development in line with FSA’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead senior-level competitions, tournaments, and events, ensuring a high-quality experience for players, clubs, officials, and spectators.
  • Support pathways for player and coach development to encourage the transition from state leagues to professional levels.

Competition Management:

  • Oversee all senior competitions, including men’s and women’s leagues, cup competitions, and tournaments.
  • Manage competition logistics such as fixtures, scheduling, venue coordination, and adherence to regulations.
  • Ensure effective governance of league standards and rules, including team registrations, player eligibility, and matchday operations.

Club and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for senior clubs, providing support with administration, compliance, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clubs to support a collaborative football environment.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including local councils, sponsors, and media partners, to enhance the visibility and profile of senior football.

Policy and Compliance:

  • Ensure clubs adhere to FSA’s codes of conduct, safeguarding, and ethical policies.
  • Address any disputes, disciplinary matters, or compliance issues in line with FSA’s regulations and procedures.

Marketing and Communications Support:

  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote senior competitions, including social media, website updates, and match-day promotions.
  • Provide input for the marketing of major events, finals, and award nights, helping to build excitement and engagement with fans and communities.

Knowledge, skills and behavior required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing football programs or competitions, ideally at the senior or professional level.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with a proven track record of engaging and managing diverse stakeholders.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of football operations, competition structures, and the needs of senior-level clubs.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competitions and events.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to build positive relationships with clubs, players, and partners.
