An exciting weekend of cup football is upon us as the first round of the South Australia qualifiers for the newly renamed Australia Cup kicks off tonight. We take a quick look at some of the exciting matchups for this upcoming round.
The Australia Cup South Australia Qualifiers gets underway with a showdown between two SAASL Sunday Premier A teams with Elizabeth Downs SC hosting Brahma Lodge at Argana Park. Last season’s SAASL Sunday Premier A Champions Elizabeth Downs SC will look to continue their successful Australia Cup form which has seen them make the Round of 16 and Semi-Final in their past two campaigns. Brahma Lodge SC will be hungry in their attempts to make the Round of 32, however, will enter the First Round with the hopes of knocking their rivals out the cup early.
In other Friday night action sees Fulham United FC travel to Rushworth Reserve to challenge Adelaide Victory. Both clubs are no strangers to each other, with their previous clash coming last Saturday in Round Four of the State League One, which saw Fulham United FC take the three points in a 2-1 win. Adelaide Victory will look to redeem their league loss and attempt a similar cup run to last season.
It’s State League One vs State League Two. Friday night cup football continues with State League One’s Para Hills Knights facing a strong Salisbury United at The Paddocks. Para Hills Knights are eager to continue their great start to their 2022 season which has seen them gain third place in their league competition. While Salisbury United will aim to keep their great league form, which has seen them secure third place in State League Two. This matchup sees one of State League Two’s highest-scoring teams face one of State Leagues One’s best defensive sides.
SAASL Saturday Premier A side Adelaide Red Blue Eagles will look to cause an upset as they face Adelaide Hills at VALO Football Centre Saturday afternoon. Adelaide Red Blue Eagles are an exciting attacking team that finished third in their SAASL division in 2021. They face an Adelaide Hills side that has struggled thus far this season, only picking up one win, failing to score in their last three games. However, Adelaide Hills has established themselves as a difficult opponent and will provide many problems for the Adelaide Red Blue Eagles defence.
Adelaide University SC will enter battle with State League Two highflyers Adelaide Cobras in the First Round of the Australia Cup qualifiers. Adelaide University SC is yet to record a point in league competition thus far, only scoring two goals in the process, both from the penalty spot. Adelaide Cobras will look to take advantage of Adelaide University’s poor league start, as they look to continue their undefeated start to the season. Adelaide Cobras enter Round One in great spirits, while Adelaide University will hope to pick up their first victory of the season as they host their opponents at University Ovals.
Summit Sport and Recreation Centre will play host to an exciting Round One encounter as Mount Barker United SC attempts to continue their outstanding start to their league season as they take on Adelaide Titans. Mount Barker United are currently experiencing one of their best runs, picking up three wins and a draw in their first four games. Adelaide Titans will be no easy encounter for Mount Barker, with the SAASL club finishing the 2021 season as the Saturday Premier A’s runners-up.
Modbury Jets vs Seaford Rangers Round One match has been postponed due to COVID-19 Positive Cases. This match has now been rescheduled for the 29th of March 2022.
The Ghan Kilburn v Para Hills West Australia Cup Round One match has been postponed due to COVID-19 Positive Cases. Football SA is currently working with the clubs to arrange a date to replay this fixture.
