The 2026 Mitre National Futsal Championships took place at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre from 13th to the 17th of January, bringing together more than 100 teams from across Australia for an action‑packed opening day of competition.
Marking the start of five days of elite futsal, the nation’s premier tournament is being hosted by Football Queensland in partnership with Experience Gold Coast, welcoming players, coaches, officials and families from every state.
Football South Australia has entered five squads across the U12 to U17 age groups, with strong early performances highlighting their intent for the week ahead. The Under 17 Girls side set an impressive tone by securing victories in their opening fixtures, while the Under 12 Boys in Pool B also launched their campaign with a confident start.
The Futsal Nationals continue to provide an invaluable development platform for athletes and staff alike, showcasing high‑quality matches and further refining individual and team skills.
Undoubtedly, all members of the Football South Australia contingent will leave the tournament enriched by the experience, proud to represent the state on one of the biggest stages in the national futsal landscape.
Football South Australia’s very own Jayden Betterman was awarded with Young Referee of the Championship for his excellent officiating during the tournament, this is what he had to say upon receiving his award.
It’s an honour to receive such an accolade and a privilege to represent the state. None of this would be possible without the support around me as we continually push each other year on year.
