The First Round of the Australia Cup SA Prelimanary Rounds is almost complete, with only two more games to be played. We take a quick look at the results from over the weekend of the 18-20th March.
Elizabeth Downs demonstrated their quaility as Shaun McGreevy's four goals led them into Round Two after a 4-0 win over SAASL rivals Brahma Lodge SC. State League Two sides Vipers FC and Salisbury United pulled off early upsets as they beat State League One sides, with Vipers FC beating Adelaide Croatia Raiders 2-1 and Salisbury United coming from 3-1 down to beat Para Hills Knights on penalties.
Old Ignatians SC proved to be a tough opponent for Pontian Eagles SC, with the SAASL Saturday Premier A team narrowly missing out on victory in a 6-4 loss over their State League Two opponents. While Mount Barker United SC continued their impressive start to the season with a First Round 2-1 win over Adelaide Titans. A nine-men Adelaide Cobras fought hard to force extra-time with Adelaide University, however their opponents depth was too much for the State League Two side as they loss 3-2.
With the majority of Round One completed, Elizabeth Downs and Parafield Gardens are the only two Affiliated Associated clubs to win their Round One fixtures and qualify for the next round of the Australia Cup SA Prelimanary Rounds. Tea Tree Gully City SC automatic qualify for Round Two after they drew a bye in the First Round, while Ghan Kilburn and Para Hills West SC still are to face off.
Modbury Jets vs Seaford Rangers Round One match will be played on the 29th of March 2022, with Ghan Kilburn v Para Hills West's postponed match still in in the process of being rescheduled as Football SA works closely with the clubs to arrange a date to replay this fixture.
The Round Two draw for the Australia Cup SA Prelimanary Rounds will take place on the afternoon of Friday March 25th.
