West Adelaide vs Football SA NTC
Venue: Valo Football Centre
Date: Friday 4 September 6:15PM
West have got their season back on track at the business end of 2020 and look to continue their rich vein of form through to the end of the minor round, starting with NTC.
Finals-bound Metro was West’s first big test since losses to City and Inter and they passed with flying colours, securing a 2-0 win to strengthen their hold on second place.
NTC’s renewed form, which saw them claim back to back wins over Inter and Fulham, was unable to save them against the imperious City, who ran rampant in a 7-2 demolition.
They will still be aiming to finish the season strongly despite the Finals Series now being beyond them, while West know any slip up may cost them a double chance in the finals.
Salisbury Inter vs Adelaide Comets
Venue: Valo Football Centre – Pitch 2
Date: Friday 4 September 6:15PM
Inter responded to their back to back defeats in emphatic fashion last week but will still be on the charge to capitalise on any dropped points by West, with Comets serving as their next test.
A 7-0 drubbing of Fulham was an important result for Inter and provides a major confidence boost after losing their grip on second place.
Comets now appear destined to finish bottom, following a 1-0 defeat to Uni that saw them leapfrogged on the ladder, unless they can pick up a win in their remaining fixtures.
They will be desperate to not be propping up the table come Round 14, with any points picked up doubling as a dagger to the heart of Inter in their pursuit of the double chance.
Fulham United vs Adelaide City
Venue: Valo Football Centre
Date: Friday 4 September 8:15PM
Adelaide City will tonight have the change to be crowned Minor Premiers, even before kick-off! City just need a point to secure the title, however if West Adelaide drop points in the 6. 15 pm match, City will have wrapped it up without kicking a ball.
City have now deservedly sewn up top spot but will look to avoid dropping their output in the leadup to the finals, with a Fulham side in disastrous form and out of finals contention their opponents tonight.
Star City forward Chelsie Dawber is on track to surpass her own goalscoring exploits from last year after yet another hat-trick brought her season tally to a remarkable 27 in nine matches and three goals behind her minor round output for last season from ten less games.
Fulham have now gone four matches without scoring and crumbled to a 7-0 defeat last week at the hands of Inter, leaving them in sixth and vulnerable to falling lower should Uni or Comets pick up wins before the season’s end.
While the match will likely not have a major impact on either side’s season overall, Fulham will be desperate to up their game to avoid the wooden spoon that hangs perilously close.
Metro United WFC vs Adelaide Uni
Venue: Valo Football Centre – Pitch 2
Date: Friday 4 September 8:15PM
Metro booked their tickets for the 2020 Finals Series a fortnight ago and, despite the top two now sitting out of their reach, they will be keen to build a positive run of form coming into the major round, with Uni their opponents tonight.
Their 2-0 loss to West not only ruled Metro out of an unlikely assault on the top two but gave them a taste of the quality opponents they will face in the coming weeks.
Uni climbed off the bottom of the ladder with a 1-0 win over Comets, their second in four weeks, and will be hoping to stay clear of their nearest rivals beneath them in the final two weeks.
It has been a tough season for Uni, a sharp fall from finals football last season, so they will be aiming to end the season on a high note, while Metro will look to rebuild strong form in the lead-in to the finals.
