Female Officials Take Centre Stage During Female Football Week

For the first time, Football South Australia appointed all-female Match Official teams across three double-header fixtures during the Female Football Week Launch at ServiceFM Stadium.

The milestone occasion saw female referee teams take charge across Apex Steel WNPL and Reserves fixtures, highlighting the continued growth and development of the women’s officiating pathways in South Australia.

The historic achievement marks another important step forward for female representation within the game.

Football SA General Manager – Referee Education, Training and Compliance, Michelle Smith, said the weekend was a proud and significant moment for the South Australian football community.

“To see multiple all-female officiating teams appointed across the day was an incredibly proud moment and a reflection of the growth we’re continuing to see within the women’s game.

“What stood out most was the environment surrounding the day. The teamwork, friendship, support and sense of community between the officials. It showcased exactly what Female Football Week is about.

“These appointments demonstrate genuine pathways that exist for women and girls who want to pursue officiating at all levels of the game.”

Earlier in the day, Football SA also hosted an all-female Junior Football Match Official Course, designed to introduce and develop the next generation of referees in a safe and supportive learning environment.
