Football South Australia is proud to announce the establishment of the Football SA Variety Football Foundation Fund, a landmark strategic partnership with Variety SA designed to remove financial and social barriers preventing children from participating in football.
Following 18 months of collaboration where football has been used as a platform to support Variety SA in raising vital funds, this announcement marks a significant evolution into a formal, philanthropic partnership focused on creating genuine community impact.
The co-branded Foundation Fund will deliver immediate and measurable outcomes, ensuring that children under the age of 18 are not excluded from football due to financial hardship, disability, or social disadvantage.
A $100,000 Commitment to Participation
The Fund will launch with a $50,000 annual contribution from Variety SA, matched by a $50,000 contribution from Football South Australia, establishing a maximum annual impact pool of $100,000, with the capacity to grow through corporate partnerships and community fundraising initiatives.
Harnessing the Power of Football
With more than 45,000 participants and over 250 clubs statewide, football is uniquely positioned to deliver meaningful, grassroots impact across both metropolitan and regional communities.
Through this extensive network, the Foundation Fund will provide targeted support across three key areas:
- Participation Support Grants — Covering costs such as registration, boots, apparel, and equipment
- Education and Pathway Scholarships — Supporting long-term development opportunities
- Micro and Inclusion Grants — Addressing immediate needs, accessibility, and hardship
Clubs at the Heart of Delivery
Football SA’s affiliated clubs will play a central role in the success of the Fund, working directly within their communities to identify eligible participants and endorse applications ensuring support reaches those who need it most.
Football SA Chief Executive Officer Michael Carter said the partnership represents a defining moment for the game in South Australia.
"Variety is a wonderful charity with great people at the heart of it. We are delighted to contribute to the children's charity as our official partner.
Football has always been more than a game, it is a vehicle for inclusion, connection, and opportunity. Through this strategic partnership with Variety SA, we are taking a significant step forward in ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the chance to participate in our game.
This Foundation Fund is about breaking down barriers and working hand-in-hand with our clubs to make football truly accessible for all."
Mark McGill, Variety SA CEO had this to say about this valuable partnership between Variety SA and Football South Australia.
"Variety SA is incredibly proud to partner with Football SA on this important initiative. In the last 12 months alone, Variety SA has supported more than 65,000 children across South Australia, and this partnership will allow us to expand that impact even further.
Every child deserves the opportunity to participate and feel included. Through this Foundation Fund, children who may otherwise miss out will now have that chance, and we are proud to welcome them into the Variety family."
Building a Lasting Legacy
The Football SA Variety Football Foundation Fund represents Football’s long-term commitment to inclusion and accessibility, creating a sustainable model that will continue to support disadvantaged children while strengthening the role of football as a force for good in the community.
