Football SA is excited to launch Community Football Hubs, a new initiative providing young people with a welcoming, inclusive and accessible environment to play football, build friendships and continue their football journey.
Delivered in partnership with the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing through the Sector Success Program, Community Football Hubs have been developed to bridge the gap between introductory football experiences and ongoing participation within the community.
Each year, thousands of young people are introduced to football through schools and participation programs. However, barriers including cost, transport and confidence can prevent young people from taking the next step in their football journey.
Community Football Hubs have been designed to reduce these barriers by providing a local, low-cost opportunity for participants to stay connected to the game while developing their skills, confidence and sense of belonging.
The program forms part of Football SA's Three-Tier Participation Pathway, creating clear and supported opportunities for young people to progress at a pace that suits them:
- Tier 1: Entry-level after-school football programs.
- Tier 2: Community Football Hubs delivered at selected locations.
- Tier 3: Organised Community Football and/or Talent Pathways, ensuring young people who face barriers to participation do not miss the opportunity to continue their football journey.
The pilot Community Football Hub will be delivered at Ridley Reserve in the City of Playford, commencing in late September and running for 10 weeks.
Community Football Hubs strengthen Football SA's participation pathway by providing young people with ongoing opportunities to play, develop their skills and remain connected to the game. The program supports participants who face barriers to ongoing participation, ensuring more young people can continue their football journey in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Following the pilot, Football SA intends to expand Community Football Hubs to additional locations across South Australia, creating more opportunities for young people to participate in football, strengthen community connections and discover where the game can take them.
Whether participants are trying football for the first time or looking for a pathway into community football, everyone is encouraged to get involved, have fun and become part of a welcoming football community.
