Football South Australia Statement

The South Australia Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred at Ellis Park during a Junior Girls game on Sunday, 5 September 2021.

It is alleged a volunteer linesperson from Adelaide Comets was assaulted by a coach from the opposition team.

Football SA has immediately suspended the coach, preventing the individual from participating or attending any football activity sanctioned by Football SA. As a sport, we have a zero-tolerance approach to violence.

The matter will be referred to a Disciplinary Committee hearing.

Michael Carter, Football SA CEO said:

“Football SA is appalled to hear of an incident of an alleged assault of a linesperson be they a volunteer or a paid official.”

"We don’t stand for this type of behaviour and it’s utterly unacceptable. We will be dealing with this through our regular disciplinary process.”

Football SA will not provide any further comment whilst the investigation is ongoing.
