Football South Australia is pleased to announce a fuel subsidy for Match Officials officiating in the following Semi Professional Competitions:
- RAA National Premier League
- Senior, Reserves & Under 18
- Apex Steel Women’s National Premier League
- Senior & Reserves
- Apex Steel Women’s State League
- Senior and Reserves
- HPG Homes State League 1
- Senior, Reserves and Under 18
- HPG Homes State League 2
- Senior, Reserves and Under 18
The fuel subsidy is in response to rising fuel costs and the importance of supporting match officials to ensure fixtures can proceed without travel related disruptions.
Metro Subsidy
A threshold for travel reimbursements will be implemented effective immediately and will be as follows:
Regional Match Subsidy
Referees traveling regionally to Port Pirie, Barossa and Whyalla (Cup round only) currently receive a reimbursement of $0.88c per kilometre. When petrol prices are above $2.35, the cents per kilometre reimbursement will be adjusted to $1.26, representing a 43% increase.
Fact Sheet
- The fuel subsidy will be for the 2026 season ONLY.
- Subsidy payments will be the sole responsibility of Football SA and not competing clubs.
- Fuel price thresholds will be strictly adhered to.
The thresholds will be in accordance with average Adelaide Fuel Prices as listed on Fuel Price Australia “ULP 91 In the Capitals”
- Payments to Match Officials will made in accordance with regular payments to Match Officials on a weekly basis.
- The fuel levy will be calculated using the Adelaide average fuel price recorded each Friday and will apply to all matches played in the following seven-day period (Friday to Thursday). This approach ensures consistency and clarity, making the levy easy to administer and clearly defining the applicable rate for each week.
NOTE: Referees officiating in multiple games at the same venue will only qualify for one fuel reimbursement.
This initiative recognises the critical role match officials play in delivering competitions and aims to reduce the impact of travel costs across the 2026 season. Football South Australia has allocated up to $100,000 for the remainder of the season to deliver this initiative, subject to fuel prices remaining at current levels. While the final amount invested may vary, it represents a significant investment in football across the state and in supporting its match officials.
