Football South Australia is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Nick Elagin, who will make his debut as an Assistant Referee in the Isuzu A-League on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. Nick’s journey to this milestone is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to officiating, as well as the robust pathways available for Match Officials within South Australia and into the Football Australia program.
Nick began his officiating career in 2012 at the age of 16. Over the years, he has achieved several significant milestones:
- NPL Senior AR Debut: 2015
- National Youth Championships (NYC): 2016 / 2017
- National Youth League: Referee in 2018 and 2019
- W-League: Fourth Official and Assistant Referee in 2018 and 2019
- National Talent Pool: 2017-2019
- Australia Cup: Debuted in 2019
- Football Australia Referee Academy (FARA) Batch 1: 2023/24
- Uni Nationals: 2023
Along the way, he has been awarded the following prestigious SA referee awards: 2016 Rising Star and 2017 Young Referee of the Year.
Nick is joined by two other local referees who have developed through the pathways: Assistant Referee Henry Day, and Fourth Official Daniel Cook.

Reflecting on his appointment, Nick shared his excitement:
“I am very grateful to have been appointed to my first A-League Men’s match. This has been a long-term goal of mine. I’d like to thank my coaches and peers for their continued support in helping me achieve it.”
