RAA NPLSA Goals Wrap | Round Ten

Adelaide Comets ran out winners over Adelaide United’s youth team in a tense affair that finished 3-2 at SA Athletics Stadium.

The home side found the back of the net through a well-worked team goal inside ten minutes, as Allan Welsh’s dink into the box allowed Anthony Mavrolambados to square for Jaiden Diamantis, who fired into the top corner from close range.

The Young Reds drew level just after the half-hour mark, as Jonny Yull’s pass into the box came back to him as he surged forward, sweeping a powerful shot in at the near post to make it 1-1.

A set-piece allowed Comets to regain the lead on 38 minutes, as Jack Bladen’s floated ball into the box eventually found the head of Welsh, whose parried shot was bundled home by Adam Le Cornu on the line.

Their advantage lasted only three minutes, however, as Binyam Kebede’s strike was allowed to stand after originating from a quick free kick taken away from where it was originally awarded.

After a high-scoring first half, skipper Welsh broke through with the only goal of the second, pouncing on a loose ball from a corner to scramble home in the 55th minute and seal all three points for Comets.

Sturt Lions ended their dry spell with a big 3-0 victory over Cumberland United, while Adelaide City overcame South away from home by the same margin.

Campbelltown City and MetroStars enjoyed comfortable wins over Adelaide Croatia Raiders and Adelaide Olympic respectively, while a dramatic finish saw the spoils shared between Croydon FC and Adelaide Blue Eagles at 2-2.
