SA Panthers FC: Leading the Way in Safeguarding

At SA Panthers FC, safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable members of our community is at the heart of everything they do. SA Panthers are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every participant can enjoy football with confidence and security.

SA Panthers have implemented a range of practical measures to ensure the wellbeing of all young and vulnerable participants. These measures are embedded throughout their operations and supported by clear policies, ongoing education, and dedicated leadership.

A key component of their safeguarding framework is the oversight provided by their Registrar and Child Safety Officer, Karen Mezzino. Karen brings extensive experience in caring for and supporting children, ensuring that safeguarding remains a priority across all areas of the club.

Safeguarding practices include:

  • Comprehensive screening and recruitment processes for coaches, volunteers, and committee members.
  • Maintenance of current Working with Children Checks and all relevant certifications.
  • Collection and management of photo permissions during player registration, ensuring that all club social media content complies with parental and participant consent requirements.
  • Ongoing vigilance and education among team coordinators and club officials, who actively seek guidance from the Child Safety Officer whenever required.

These measures demonstrate their commitment to child-safe leadership, responsible recruitment practices, and the protection of children’s privacy and wellbeing within community football.

SA Panthers FC has embraced the Club Changer Program as an important tool in strengthening their safeguarding framework.

Through the program, the club has successfully completed the Two-Star Module and achieved Two-Star Club Status. This milestone included participation in Football Australia’s Safeguarding Webinar, which provided valuable education and resources to further enhance safeguarding knowledge and procedures.

The Club Changer Program has enabled SA Panthers to review and refine processes, ensuring that safeguarding practices continue to align with best-practice standards across the football community.

Safeguarding is not a one-time achievement, it is an ongoing commitment. SA Panthers FC continually review and improve processes to ensure they provide the safest possible environment for all participants.

With the support of our highly qualified Child Safety Officer and the resources available through the Club Changer Program, SA Panthers have access to the tools, education, and guidance necessary to maintain and strengthen safeguarding standards.

The safety and wellbeing of children, young people, and vulnerable members remain our highest priority. SA Panthers are proud of the culture they have built and remain dedicated to fostering an environment where everyone feels respected, protected, and empowered to enjoy the game.
