White City on the march and Mount Barker off the mark | State League Round 5 Wrap

State League One

Adelaide Victory will have felt that had a disappointing week. With six huge points up for grabs, only one point was gained.

The first of which was a midweek catch up game against Seaford, which resulted in a deadlock 0-0 draw.

The next fixture was against Fulham, who desperately needed a win to turn around some poor form. That’s exactly what United did, running away 3-2 winners.

White City once again showed their credentials, as they managed to beat Birkalla 2-1 away from home. Stefan Simic was prolific again, he grabbed yet another goal in the 11th minute, Conway responded for Birks just before halftime, however Gepp slotted the winner for Beograd in the 73rd. A red card for Birkalla in the 58th made things extremely difficult. Despite this result they are still right in the mix for finals

Adelaide Hills have shown real promise this season, and they may have been felt unlucky as they fell 2-1 to a classy South Adelaide outfit. Rideout banged 2 goals, leaving his team 3rd and himself 1st in the golden boot.

Strikers and Sturt played out a tense affair at Carnegie reserve. Sturt snuck over the line with an own goal on Striker’s behalf, the match ended 1-0. As has been the case for practically the whole season, Sturt still sit behind West Adelaide, however the pressure is building for Hellas.

West Adelaide themselves put together a comprehensive 4-0 win over Seaford, who are going to need a miracle to avoid the perilous plummet to State league 2. Kasumovic and Stefanopoulos have proven themselves as avid goal scorers this year, they proved it again as they both grabbed a brace.

Playford continued their stunning home form and saw off Vipers 2-1 at Ramsay park. Daniel Ryan grabbed yet another goal, and Bradley Ballentine the former Jet, scored in the 55th minute to secure the win and his first goal for the club.

Mt Barker grabbed their first point of the season. Hayden Vander Wolf scored in the 16th and a Pontian own goal just before halftime meant things were looking good for Barker. Pontian themselves also needed the result and put their stamp on the game through Mavromatis and Bigirimana in the 48th and 77th. From there the teams couldn’t be separated, the match ended 2-2.

Modbury Vista continue to impress, as they saw off Salisbury in another Northern derby, this time 2-1. Marchioro has made a habit of scoring and he did so again in the 29th. Briggs also slotted one in the 39th, this was enough to see of Salisbury who grabbed a consolation in the 51st.

Pirates were in desperate need of 3n points and they did so over Adelaide Uni, 1-0. Daniel Pearce converted in the 70th, he and his teammates will be looking to build on this result next week against Northern Demons.

Demons themselves suffered a rare home defeat, as the surging Cove FC grabbed a Jacob Moon inspired 2-1 win.

Noarlunga looked the goods to secure an upset over promotion contenders Gawler, as the home side was 2-0 up. However, the Eagles fought back brilliantly through Thomas Gooding and Benny Kovadio in the 71st and 76th respectively. The two sides shared the points in the end.

Eastern were back to winning ways and further cemented themselves as one of SL2’s top dogs. Goals from Kemo, Shaksi, Ndayirata and an own goal, were enough to see off contenders Cobras, the match ended 4-2.
