Erba shines in Perth as Olympic advances to the FFA Cup Round of 16

Adelaide Olympic have progressed to the FFA Cup Round of 16 for the second time in their history with a 3-0 win over ECU Joondalup at Dorrien Gardens on Wednesday night.

Second-half goals from Christos Pounendis,  Fausto Erba and Ioannis Simosis proved decisive as Olympic secured victory over a Joondalup side who’s first ever appearance in the national rounds ends in defeat.

After a scoreless first half, Pounendis found the breakthrough in the 70th minute when he turned an acrobatic volley into the back of the net after Simosis’ scuffed effort fell into his path on the end of an Olympic corner.

Erba doubled the visitors advantage eight minutes later when he stood up his marker before finding the back of the net with a sensational dinked effort from the byline.

Olympic substitute, Simosis rounded out the scoring when he converted from the penalty spot after Michael Cittadini was brought down by Joondalup keeper John Perkins inside the area.

Olympic join Adelaide United, Lions FC, Gold Coast Knights & Brisbane Roar in the hat for FFA Cup Round of 16 draw, which will take place at 1:30pm AEST on Thursday, 30 September for the North/West Zone.
