Former Football South Australia President and Life Member
Football South Australia is deeply saddened by the passing of former President and Life Member Estelle Bowman, a respected leader, mentor and passionate advocate for football in South Australia.
Estelle's contribution to the game was significant, spanning many years of dedicated service at both grassroots and state level. Her leadership and passion for supporting others have left a lasting legacy within the South Australian football community.
In May 2022, Estelle made history when she became the first female President of Football South Australia, a significant milestone for the organisation and for women in football leadership.
Her appointment followed many years of service as a Football SA Board Director, Vice President and Deputy Chair. Throughout her time on the Board, Estelle brought extensive experience, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to the advancement of the game.
Her involvement in football was firmly grounded in the grassroots community. As a former President and Life Member of Adelaide Hills Hawks Football Club, she understood the importance of clubs, volunteers and the countless individuals who dedicate their time to making football possible.
Beyond her formal roles, Estelle was a passionate advocate for developing people and creating opportunities for others. She generously shared her knowledge and experience, providing guidance, encouragement and mentorship to those around her.
Estelle also brought considerable professional experience to her involvement in football, having held senior positions across the public, private and academic sectors in Australia and internationally.
In 2025, her outstanding contribution was formally recognised when she was inducted as a Life Member of Football South Australia, acknowledging eight years of service on the Board.
While her achievements were considerable, Estelle's legacy extends well beyond the positions she held. She will be remembered for her dedication, generosity, the relationships she built and the many people she supported and inspired throughout her life.
Football South Australia CEO Michael Carter paid tribute to Estelle:
