An exciting weekend of cup football is upon us as the first round of the WNPL and WSL Cup kicks off tonight. We take a quick look at some of the exciting matchups for this upcoming round.
We are treated tonight to the first-ever game at the State Centre for Football as West Adelaide takes on Modbury Vista in the opening fixture of the 2022 WNPL & WSL Cup. West Adelaide is currently experiencing a three-game winning streak which sees them sit second in the WNPLSA. During this run, West Adelaide has recorded an 8-1 win over Metro United WFC, a 2-1 win over last season’s Champions Salisbury United, and a 9-0 win against tonight’s opponents Modbury Vista. Modbury Vista has not had a great start to life in the WNPLSA as they sit bottom of the league with zero points. Could Modbury Vista cause a cup upset and get revenge for their Round Two 9-0 loss to West Adelaide?
Cup Football continues Saturday as South Adelaide takes on Flinders United. The two Women’s State League clubs are yet to face off this season, however, both clubs have experienced impressive starts to the season. Flinders United are currently unbeaten, recording two wins in their opening two games, while South Adelaide sits in fifth with four points. Flinders United are yet to concede this season, while South Adelaide has scored 18 goals in three matches.
Women’s State League club Elizabeth Grove and 2021 WNPLSA Champions Salisbury Inter are set to battle Saturday night. Elizabeth Grove has not started the season in great form, only recording one win in their opening three games. They face a tough challenge as last season’s cup winners are eager to replicate their success from last year. Salisbury Inter has started the season with only two wins in their opening four games, however, are looking to continue to build form into their league competitions.
We have another Women’s State League encounter as Campbelltown City faces FK Beograd at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre. Both clubs have started the season in bad form with Campbelltown City sitting bottom of the table with zero wins in four games, whereas, FK Beograd has only won one of their four games. FK Beograd is looking to build upon their first win of the season from last week.
Football SA NTC and Adelaide City will face off in the final match of Round One on Tuesday 10th May at the State Centre for Football. Football SA NTC currently sits at the top of the WNPLSA ladder with three wins and a draw in four games, with Adelaide City currently holding third place, with three wins and a loss in four games. Adelaide City and Football SA NTC will meet in league competition before their Round One meeting in the WNPL & WSL Cup.
Adelaide Jaguars vs Adelaide University has been postponed due to a COVID outbreak. This match has been rescheduled to Tuesday 3rd May at West Beach Football Centre.
Fulham United Reserves have forfeited their matchup with WT Birkalla, resulting in WT Birkalla progressing to the next round.
