WNPLSA Preview | Round Eleven

Adelaide University vs West Adelaide
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 9 July 6:15 PM

Round 11 of NPL action kicks off tonight, as Uni take on ladder leaders West in a fixture between sides desperate for victory for vastly different reasons.

Uni suffered a 1-0 defeat for the second week running, this time coming against Comets, and their struggles in front of goal continued, although they maintain their record of the tightest defence outside the current top three.

West had to settle for a point in their match against Metro despite twice hitting the front, with Nicole Tilley producing a piece of sublime skill to arrow her shot into the top corner from a tight angle outside the box.

With sixth place now four points ahead of Uni, any points are important in the quest to claw themselves back up the table, while West now have Inter breathing down their necks at the top.

Adelaide Comets vs Salisbury Inter
Venue: VALO Football Centre
Date: Friday 9 July 8:15 PM

It’s the battle of the black and blue as Comets take on Inter in the late kick-off, a match that promises to be an entertaining one for spectators.

Comets picked up their third win of the campaign last weekend, grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 win over Uni and taking the lead through Hannah Jenkin’s inch-perfect side-footed finish.

Inter routed Fulham 5-0 in a ruthless display as Cote Rojas scored twice and laid off two assists in an electric display, which included a chip from an incredibly tight angle to cap off a five-star performance.

Comets are now just four points outside the top four, albeit with a hefty goal deficit, so every point counts from here, while Inter will feel the same way as they jostle for top spot with the sides around them.

Adelaide City vs Fulham United
Venue: Adelaide City Park
Date: Saturday 10 July 2:30 PM

City have started to pick up steam and get consistent wins on the board, with their latest task coming in the form of a winless Fulham outfit.

The hosts moved up to third on the table with their 3-1 victory over NTC, marking their third triumph in a row, thanks in part to sumptuous lobbed goals by Alana Fitzsimmons and Chelsie Dawber in the space of five second-half minutes.

Fulham’s woes continued last weekend as they fell to a 5-0 defeat to high-flyers Inter, their second consecutive loss by that margin, as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table as we approach the halfway mark.

Now sitting five points behind ladder leaders West with just over half the season left to play, City will fancy themselves to push further up the table, while Fulham know they need to start collecting results soon to salvage their season.

Metro United vs Football SA NTC
Venue: TK Shutter Reserve
Date: Saturday 10 July 5:15 PM

Tomorrow night’s clash at TK Shutter Reserve looms as one of the matches of the round between two sides separated by just one point at the edge of the top half.

Metro held first-placed West to a 2-2 draw in which they twice came from behind, with the first of their goals coming directly from Rochelle Draper’s corner delivery in an effort that’s sure to live long in the memory.

NTC were unable to take any points from their encounter with City, which finished 3-1, but Anastasia Willoughby’s floating long-range effort that glided through the air and into the back of the net was a highlight of the night.

With both sides proving themselves very capable of finding the back of the net (with 20 and 22 goals respectively), Metro and NTC are sure to produce an exciting contest this weekend.
